What really speaks for the legend of the American Dream Team is, that we little European basketball kids literally adored and idolized ALL of the players equally. I cannot remember any discussion on who was the greatest on that roster. They were just all „mysterious gods“ to us - a true Allstar Team and great representatives of American sports and culture back then. Still great fun to watch…

@Luceat Lux He also has a sense of humor - I met him in 1977 at MSU. I was a HS senior visiting my older brother at MSU, and they were having a kegger in the dorm. I was in his bathroom where one of the kegs was, getting a beer, when this tall black guy came in. I asked if he wanted a beer, and he said yes, and I started tapping it and asked if he played basketball - he was the biggest guy I had ever seen at that point, and he said yes. So I clarified, asking if he played for State, and he said he would be soon, but he was just a freshman. So I wished him luck and asked his name. Then I said I would be watching, and hoped he got some playing time. He said, "Yeah, I think I might get a little playing time." then he grinned and walked away. Keep in mind that this was LONG before the internet, or ESPN or any of that, and I was busy working, going to school, having fun and chasing girls - I didn't follow basketball recruiting - I had NO CLUE who he was. I think he got a kick out of that - everyone on campus knew just who he was, and here he meets this scrawny white boy who doesn't know squat about him.

@Franco Martins A "Renaissance?" ~ Renaissance, (French: “Rebirth”) period in European civilization immediately following the Middle Ages and conventionally held to have been characterized by a surge of interest in Classical scholarship and values. The Renaissance also witnessed the discovery and exploration of new continents, the substitution of the Copernican for the Ptolemaic system of astronomy, the decline of the feudal system and the growth of commerce, and the invention or application of such potentially powerful innovations as paper, printing, the mariner’s compass, and gunpowder. To the scholars and thinkers of the day, however, it was primarily a time of the revival of Classical learning and wisdom after a long period of cultural decline and stagnation.

There is something magical about being able to say "i was there". A lot of people don't get the opportunity to witness greatness 1st hand, or truly defining moments in pop culture like this. I will remember for the rest of my life watching the 1992 Olympics with my family. These days unfortunately the spirit of what the Olympics represents has been mostly lost to political grandstanding. But at least those of us that are old enough to remember can look back on these memories with a great fondness.

I remember watching all those matches. It was really a "Dream Team". That said, it is also true that they found almost no difficulty in the games. The former Yugoslavia (amazing team), just slipt up a year before and it was still at war. The former Soviet Union also ended a while before, so Russia lost some of their best, as they became Lithuanians, Latvians and so on. The US would certainly win the gold anyways, but I am sure their dominance would have been completely different. Nowadays, the difference between Europe and the US is not as far as it was before. Those were amazing uncomparable players.

This is my favorite sports documentary. I love to the personalities of the players and the friendships formed. I was not a Chuck Daley fan but this made me appreciate what a great coach he was. I never thought MJ was the reason IT wasn't on the team, them walking off the court was a bad look. There is even an ESPN documentary regarding the bad boys and that is heavily featured in it.

@Marin Yep ..hard to imagine one player with the best post game, best midrange game, best finisher at the rim, best at getting steals, guarding 1-5 as needed, the DPOY, the best scorer ever, great handle, master of ping passes, the damn dunk champion, best leader, most clutch, best killer instinct, best trash talker and great handle a lot of blocks too....but I saw it happen live and never took it for granted. Truly amazing. Even showcased other HOF players' attributes by seeing how they still would hang in there against the GOAT. I'll never forget Bird calling him "God disguised as Michael Jordan".

Chewy98TA חודש לפני
@Ken Merriman Magic does not have any risk of getting AIDS. What causes AIDS is prolific drug use, anal sex, and AZT. Many things can ruin your immune system. Look what happens to people on meth. Pretty similar symptoms. Magic can stop any HIV treatments if he's still taking them and he'll be fine. HIV is harmless. Magic probably went rear door on some chicks to prevent any future paternity suits and had an immune response that caused him to test positive to HIV. The doctors that diagnosed him robbed him of about 5 good years of his career.

I’m sure you’d be terrified if you were to receive an AIDS diagnosis and wouldn’t want other people making light of it... it’s always good to think before you type. If it’s not something you’d say to the person’s face, it’s best not said at all.

For those of us old enough to remember, this was and has been the greatest moment in sports history. This video makes me proud to be American and to have lived through and watched this unbelievable story unfold in real time. Thank you to the people that put this together.

I love how you can witness the passing of the torch between Magic to MJ. You can see similar behavior with Mike and Kobe. Kobe and Mike had a more lighthearted version of this in MJ's last Allstar.

one thing they left out that I remember is that one of the teams coaches (can't remember the team) made a statement that the US team can play offense but they can't play defense. Then when the US killed that team like 118-32 (don't recall actual score), one of the players (can't remember who) asked the other teams coach "Was that enough defense for you?"

1992 was a really difficult year for me,I was just 20 and moved from my hometown Barcelona to a shit hole.that summer I came back to live and experience the Olympics, in one of the hottest summers Barcelona has ever went tru, with temperatures above 100,happy crowds everywhere, and when I say crowds I mean crowds, thousands of people living out the best Olympics ever.there was this sense of happiness and unity and sbove all, the dream team. it was all about the dream team.everybody still remembers the gigantic and iconic Michael Jordan's poster hanging out in one of the most visited city streets.the dream team changed sports, the Olympics and my hometown and I will never forget that wonderful month of my life despite the crappy year I had.there always will be people thinking that the 2012 dream team was beter, and the couldn't be more wrong. That year,my hometown and the dream team were bigger than life.i am still so proud that this little piece of history took place in my city.

52:16 - the funny thing is the guy taking pictures is actually Arturas Karnisovas - current VP of Chicago Bulls. From taking pictures of Michael Jordan in the Olympics to becoming the main person in building next Bulls dynasty. That's just another real story how everything is possible.

I remember thinking how much fun it was to watch, but what was more significant to me was how the US somehow was always the only ones to put actual amateurs in the game, while most everyone else got to put their best of the best in whatever sport. Funny though, even with that our amateurs did pretty good overall mostly. Which should have been a warning. Cause now, for the first time the world got to see what happens when we put ours best of the best in their as well. Just simply no contest. It was dominance like never seen before and never again. Though they would have took the gold either way, Chuck Daley gets a ton of credit for creating ways to make them work as a team and not just beat everyone, but mercilessly crush them. RIP Chuck.

Dif right there that the younger gen couldn't understand nor appreciate, Mike would you join Bird and Magic as team captains ... Mike "No I'm okay because I know how much it meant to them and this being their first time" ... respectfully stepping back and letting the gen before him take their place on top of the mantle the way it's suppose to be. Respect 🙌

Man, to see Magic and Bird, two legends among Titans, sharing the court. Beautiful, artists constructi g a masterpiece. Gentle brushstrokes belie an underlying skill and power. An amalgamation of speed and force unseen before and since. This shit was like a religious experience. Like experiencing a miracle.
